STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

WHAT HAVE YOU DISCOVERED ABOUT YOURSELF AS A LEARNER?

I need to take my time.   Sometimes I  take longer than others but that’s okay. (Dyslexic/Dyspraxic student)

That I can change my thinking which helps me to decipher words and maths questions. (Dyslexic Student)

I have discovered that being different in the feuerstein circumstance is what you want. I have also learnt that debating is where I belong, it is where I can enjoy going. Stepping into a debate is a sensation I can not get enough of, as one debate ends  we get the  conclusion but I want to debate on that conclusion also.  (Gifted student)

That when things get too difficult I don’t give up as easily as I use to.  I now believe I CAN do it.   I use to always give up because I thought I wasn’t good enough.  Through out the Dyslexia in my life I have had many years of anxiety and feeling stressed out, not being able to keep  up with the others but when Feuerstein came into my life it turned my whole life upside down in a good way.  (Dyslexic/Dyspraxic student)

WHAT DID YOU LEARN THAT SURPRISED YOU?

I was really surprised when I first looked at a sheet and was like, "Oh gosh, I'll never be able to do this!" But once I thoroughly looked through, and read it carefully with lots of inputting, and figured out a plan, I found out that I could actually do it, with ease. I was also surprised when lots of people had different answers, as well as me, but as long as we could justify our answer, we weren't wrong, which made me feel like I was never wrong, as long as I could justify it, so nobody was put down.  (Normative student)

I found out that I am really good at finding real life examples to link into our Feuerstein lessons.  (Dyslexic Student)

I have learnt that helping people is very frustrating when they cannot see things in dots that you saw straight away. But how you feel when they complete that area is amazing no matter how easy it was for you. (Gifted Student)

There is no right or wrong if you can tell why you think that way, because our brains all think differently.  I am more able to remember a whole list of spelling now.  I also feel confident and willing to share my ideas in front of the class.   When I first started FIE it was a challenging place for me to be I would never talk in front of the class because my anxiety would be really high and I couldn’t control it but now I just think of it as like a simple question and I feel like I am catching up with the others.  (Dyspraxic Student)

HOW HAVE YOU GROWN AS A STUDENT DOING FEUERSTEIN?

When I approach an activity instead of just doing it,   I first apply my Data gathering skills then plan and underline the key words.   I have controlled my impulsivity.   I read the instructions carefully now.   I think deeper and my reflections are a lot better too.  (Very Gifted Student)

I grew from impulsivity, I changed the way I normally see things. I look more carefully, closely and accurately. Impulsivity was a big thing. I hardly knew what it was, but then I learnt to wait, and be more precise, as well as reading questions and instruction more carefully, listening and paying attention and also thinking in a different perspective to get other answers and ideas.  (Normative Student)

WHAT CHALLENGED YOU?

I didn't believe in myself so that challenged me and all the group helped me to believe in myself and made me want to help others and now I want to come to school.  (Dyslexic Student)

Having to be REALLY accurate when we were doing the DOTs page when we joined up the lines.  The last page of DOT was an absolute challenge!   Orientation in Space was too,  my brain could not process the information but I worked through it slowly  and I have gotten so much better.  At my house now I really think about where to put things and make sure that they are in the best place.  (Dyslexic/Dyspraxic Student)

HOW HAS THE FEUERSTEIN PROGRAMME HELPED YOU WITH YOUR GOALS?

Feuerstein has helped me to be more precise.   If I make a mistake,  I rethink and be a bit more bendable towards my plans.   At the start of the year there was only one way to learn but Feuerstien has shown me there are many ways to learn.   (Dyspraxic Student)

My goal was to get better at trigonometry.   I got Sine, Cosine and Tangent really muddled up but I used my data gathering skills and then I could understand how to work on my goal.   I am close to achieving my goal now. (Gifted student)

One of my goals was to improve on keyboard, now with the Feuerstein programme I have learnt how practice pays off. It may take time but the more time you take the more you are thinking about the task at hand. So the more I look at my sheet of music the more things I pick up. Feuerstein has helped me in algebra as at first giving the answer first confused me but now I have a plan basically implanted into my brain. I remember Bedmas every time. My thinking has improved.  (Gifted student)

My goal this year was to go up a group in maths and I went up two groups. I feel that the Feuerstein Programme has helped me to make a plan about how to decipher the question.  (Dyslexic Student)
